August Cellars Winery

The design was guided by the hill it sits on, into and above.

We had a  utilitarian approach, a want of economy and a desire for being environmentally conscious.  Natural light pours in everywhere allowing the owners to work without the lights in many spaces.  The materials are hard working concrete, cement board and metal siding. The cellars are buried into the hill for natural cooling and the offices share light with the tasting room though they are 2 floors apart.

The sunny main entrance leads directly into the tasting room off the cellars.  Flooded from above with light filtering through the trusses and lined with the cellar doors, just follow the line to the tasting bar.
